To many people Owen Lloyd was simply known as "The Birdman from Kings Cross", where he usually busked around the El Alamein Fountain with his home made instrument, accompanied by his budgies Sambo, Georgie Boy, Bluey, Prince, Percy and Toby.
Owen attracted many followers and appeared in newspapers and on television in the early 1960s and 1970s, and had a rather colourful and controversial lifestyle.
He travelled extensively, visiting as far a field as South Africa, performing magical shows and busking.
Owen was well known in the Cross up to the early 1980s. Owen died in 1987 aged 80.
